Francesca Calzolari is a painter and set designer from Turin, born in 1999. She obtained a three-year degree at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, specializing in art education, while she is currently obtaining a master’s degree in painting. Painting has always been a great characteristic feature. Oil on canvas, a favorite genre, is the main communication tool. The themes developed are the self-portrait, the crystal glass and the leather armchair. The self-portrait is a great interior study, a perennial challenge whose aim is the observation of one’s own face, one’s own features; It allows you to develop a great capacity for self-analysis. In every self-portrait you are the same, yet so different, as if everyone were composing the great puzzle of personality. The glass, often combined with the self-portrait, represents the study of transparency and deformation, obtained thanks to water. Tall, light and perfect, it allows you to see through, look beyond and obtain a new perspective on things, due to the reversal of the image. The water contained recalls an inebriating liquid, a rich glass to be raised, an exhilaration to be achieved. Can the leather armchair be the transfiguration of the human body? Yes. Smooth, soft, but at the same time angular, curled and knotty. The Frammenti project, composed of paintings representing different and fragmented views of a single armchair, shows how it can change face and color in each canvas. The careful study allows us to obtain the softness of the fabric, the weave of the armrests and the visual intensity of the color. Set design is another major branch of work, started a few years ago with important work successes and collaborations. Assistant set designer on the short film Ratavoloira, winner at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival as Best Fantasy Short of the Year, Annual Awards January 2023 and as Best Action Film at the New York International Film Awards, May 2022 “For days in Turin, citizens have been saying they have been hearing voices and shouts coming from the city’s statues. Many suffer from insomnia and gather unconscious near the statues. The police are stumbling in the dark. Crime takes hold in the city. Until a masked man calling himself Ratavoloira tries to take control of the situation”. Art director, set designer and artist for Disney Italia. Creation and management of the project for the room relating to Princess Snow White on the occasion of the exhibition WE PRINCESSES ALWAYS CELEBRATION, inaugurated on 22 September 2022 in Milan at the WOW Museo del Fumetto and open to the public from 23 to 25 September. The room is made up of 7 apples made of resined and painted polystyrene, 3 of which are on the floor and 4 on the ceiling. They represent the Seven Dwarfs, but at the same time the bitten apple represents Snow White and the fulcrum of the whole story. Hanging on the central wall, a mirror frame reads Mirror servant of my braves, the famous phrase said by the queen at the beginning of the story. The mirrored walls allow you to visually expand the dimensions of the room, creating a totally immersive and engaging space. Collaboration with T3kne, a Roman company whose aim is the organization of events and film promotion. Set designer and location manager for the promotional video of The King’s Man: Origins for Disney and set designer for Top Gun – Maveric for Paramount.
