TALK | Art and AI: Technology meets human creativity

TALK
Saturday, March 29
from 3:30-5 PM
Room 31

For centuries, art has been a reflection of the human soul, the result of a fusion between the artist’s intuitive talent and the tools at their disposal. However, with the advent of generative artificial intelligence, this traditional balance is undergoing a radical transformation. A new variable – the machine – has entered the creative process, reshaping it in ways that were unimaginable just a few decades ago.

Artificial intelligence (AI), with its ability to process vast amounts of data and generate original content, represents a revolutionary resource for contemporary artists. Think of it as a digital muse, capable of suggesting new combinations, exploring uncharted stylistic territories, and expanding the boundaries of human creativity. Beyond inspiration, AI also serves as a practical tool, simplifying complex processes and allowing artists to focus on the most visionary aspects of their work.

However, alongside these extraordinary potentials come significant challenges. The introduction of AI into the artistic landscape raises ethical, legal, and philosophical questions. For instance: who is the author of a piece created by artificial intelligence? Do copyright rights belong to the artist who set the parameters or to the machine that created the work? And furthermore, how can we ensure that AI-generated art retains intrinsic value, avoiding a reduction to mere imitation devoid of emotional depth?

Open debate: don’t miss the talk on Saturday, March 29 at YouNique

These themes will be at the heart of the exclusive talk held at Villa Ciani (Lugano) during YouNique Boutique Fair of Arts on Saturday, March 29, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM in Room 31 (2nd floor). A panel of four leading experts in the field will explore the multifaceted dialogue between creativity and technology. It will be a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a debate not only about the future of art but also about our relationship with machines and their impact on society.

Key themes of the talk

The discussion will cover three main topics:

  • Introduction to AI: An engaging and accessible overview of the history, development, and main applications of artificial intelligence in today’s world.
  • Ethics and AI: A reflection on the ethical boundaries of using AI for artistic creation, addressing issues such as cultural appropriation, authenticity, and the risk of creative homogenization.
  • AI and Creativity: An analysis of how AI is used today to create art, music, and literature, highlighting concrete examples and extraordinary achievements.
