My name is Rossana, originally I had been living in the Province of Milan. A few years ago, I moved to Gattico-Veruno, a small town near Lake Maggiore and Lake of Orta. I have always been fascinated by the world of ceramics. I started for fun and I consider myself an artist by chance. I observe Nature and I realize how important it is to respect it, nourish it, love it… it is the soul of the World, it is perfect, it is Art. I love everything that is natural; hence, my love for the combination of Water and Earth that creates Clay, which combined with Fire and Air transforms into wonderful pieces; I created four pieces dedicated to these elements with white, brown and refractory clay and glazes. To shape and refine the earth I use stones, shells, nets, leaves, plastic and glass jars, combs, iron, wood and everything I can recycle. I learned my working techniques by attending ceramist courses: coiling, slab, pinch, lathe, cuerda seca, raku. I am especially fond of raku, an ancient Japanese technique whose meaning is “pleasant, joy, harmony” and whose outcome is always surprising. I call it “the beauty of imperfection”. I prefer round shapes and this can be seen in almost all my works, including: “Different twins” – raku and naked raku. “Moon” – raku – shiny enamels. “Ovals” – raku – elegance of black that blends with gold/silver. “Bowls” – raku and naked raku – elegance of black that blends with blues and greens. “WabiSabi” – vase in white clay and glazes. Curiosity, study and passion are fundamental to continue discovering and experimenting with this meticulous work! And not only. I personally carry out all the phases of the processing: creation, drying, painting and firing (raku in collaboration). The wonder I feel every time I open the oven is indescribable!ROSSANA TERESA RIBOLDI
