Paola Tondello was born in Italy on May 20, 1974. She lives in Switzerland and primarily focuses on producing pictorial works for prestigious properties and villas. She has nurtured her passion for art from a very young age. Life initially led her down a different path, directing her interests toward the legal field. However, the silent love for artistic expression gradually emerged, and over the years, the artist felt an urgent need to manifest her thoughts and strength through painting. After various significant experiments with color, light, harmony, and balance, the artist’s hallmark became color itself. Colors, blended together and reduced through the conscious use of a palette knife, shape her unique grammatical texture of messages across the various cycles she presents. The canvas embraces her thoughts and “commands,” translating through the chromatic excitement of color the emotional state experienced by the artist at a given moment. For this reason, her painting is instantaneous, galloping alongside her most intimate and profound thoughts and emotions.
This process gave rise to the series of paintings titled “Tela Comanda Color” (“Canvas Commands Color”)—original compositions of chromatic layers. The painter perceives the compelling power of color as a concrete and tangible reality of life, beyond mere optical perception. Color represents deep emotion, a visual correspondence with the sounds of the soul, as outlined by Kandinsky in his “Concerning the Spiritual in Art” (1912), where he identified this intimate and intrinsic soulful connection. An intense, infinite azure becomes the sound of a flute; a deep ultramarine blue resonates as the heavy sound of an organ; vermilion red echoes the piercing blast of a trumpet. This color, deriving meaning from the light that defines and affirms it, is thus an intense energy, an immense territory of exploration. Tondello immerses herself fully in it. However, she does not merely aim to represent it as a visual citation or a perceptive phenomenon that captivates the eye and evokes dreams or memories. It becomes a moment of “mad” energy, of unexpected contrasts, of disconcerting and unconventional effects born from daring combinations. It is the painting of non-thought, the liberating act of intuition, where the canvas truly “commands” first the heart and then the hand, demanding the immediate occupation of every available space. Dormant impulses, forces of the unconscious, and unknown sensations magically emerge, now made manifest.PAOLA TONDELLO
