Raffaele Russo

Raffaele Russo was born in Biella in 1971, where he lives and works. He began sculpting in 2004, attending art workshops in the Biella area and in Pietrasanta (Lucca) in Tuscany. He has held solo and group exhibitions in galleries and public spaces, and in 2018 he participated in the International Symposium on Monumental Marble Sculpture at the University of Ankara in Turkey. His research focuses on the delicate relationship between the individual and society and the increasingly fragile and compromised bond between humanity and nature, through a process of simultaneously denouncing and rebalancing.

He is drawn to experimenting with different materials, but has a special preference for marble, exploring its expressive and sensorial potential. Ranging from figurative to abstract, he creates a synthesis that constantly seeks the essence of form: chromatic and perceptual contrasts, in a dialogue between light and shadow, reveal the material’s allure, prompting a careful analysis of surfaces.

“Through his works, he delves into the depths of everyday life to seek answers to questions of absolute meaning. He speaks of seemingly distant emotional worlds that, upon closer inspection, reveal themselves for what they truly are: profound bonds. In this way, he makes clear the supreme truth: regardless of the direction in which each of us gazes, we are all connected by a single belonging, that of a reality that is a blend of the human and the divine. This is the strength of her message as an artist: a higher reality seems to loom over us, but in reality it is the foundation upon which our being rests, and recognizing it saves us”.
