Nurys Mini was born in Lugano in 1987. Her work stems from a desire to rediscover and enhance artisanal knowledge linked to the rural and natural world with a contemporary sensibility. Her works are born from thread. Spinning, weaving, and embroidering—slow, traditional gestures become artistic expressions bridging past and present, intimacy and community, tradition and innovation. Through practice and visual documentation, she intertwines two languages: the manual one of textiles and the narrative one of photography. The latter is a gaze that observes, documents, and narrates not only what is seen, but also what resonates in gestures, materials, and places, creating traces, fragments, memory, and breath. It is a gaze that envelops what weaving expresses through the body. Her works are an intimate journey, from sheep to fiber, from fiber to thread, from thread to artwork. Each step is a way to listen, to connect, to restore value to what often goes unnoticed. An invitation to slow down, to see beauty in details, in small gestures, to recognize the creative power born from simplicity. Every thread is a fragment of life, every fabric is a story woven within us. In her works, cyanotype, an ancient photographic technique, imprints its shadow on the fabric, born from the dialogue between the object and the light, between the material and its environment. Every fold, every weave, every nuance of the fabric becomes an integral part of the image, which is not only visible but also tangible. The fabric itself is the negative and positive of the work: an element that transforms into a memory, a reminder, a trace of the past. Embroidery intervenes like a second breath, a gesture that overlaps the image. Each stitch of thread, sewn with care and precision, not only decorates but also mends time, recaptures it, returns it to the viewer. Embroidery traces new narratives, adds layers of meaning, like a tale that continues to unfold under the watchful gaze of the observer.
