Conversation on stone
A conversation with Italian architect Marco Piva. An in-depth look at the material and its application in contemporary art and various design fields.
Matter represents the primordial essence of creation, but stone in particular—an ancient material par excellence, evoking eternal solidity and geological memory—symbolizes durability and monumentality: think of Egyptian temples, Renaissance cathedrals, and Baroque squares, shaped by man since primitive civilizations. Today, thanks to advanced technologies and innovative processing techniques, stone transcends its traditional boundaries: it takes on fluid, organic forms, hyper-realistic textures, or light, subtle structures, acquiring a contemporary added value that makes it a key player.
This metamorphosis projects it not only into contemporary art but also into the design disciplines—architecture, interior design, and landscape design—offering aesthetic, functional, and sustainable solutions that engage with the environment and the future. A fascinating aspect is the fusion between art and design: disciplinary hybridizations that blend artistic languages with functional logics, generating works where aesthetic expressiveness meets technical innovation.
This talk was created precisely with the aim of offering in-depth analysis and concrete, accessible guidance to those who wish to understand its role or apply it to real-world projects, through interdisciplinary perspectives that inspire and open up new creative possibilities.

The event is open to all art enthusiasts, collectors, and interested attendees who purchase an admission ticket to the YouNique Boutique Fair of Arts 2026 (March 27-29) or have a VIP invitation. For more information, please email info@younique-experience.com.
RELATOR
ARCH. MARCO PIVA | Artist & co-founder Studio Marco Piva
An Italian artist, architect, and designer, he integrates formal research, material, and light into works that blend art, design, and architecture in an evolutionary process from the Radical Design of the 1970s to contemporary visions. His unique language—influenced by Arte Programmata, Gruppo N, and Henry Van de Velde—combines artistic imagination, industrial production, and scientific aesthetics, with deep Milanese roots. A graduate of the Polytechnic University, he transformed his city into a springboard for a global career.
In 1977, he founded Studiodada, a provocative emblem of Radical Design; in 1982, at the 16th Milan Triennale, he presented “Mobili in Colore,” a counter-design manifesto featuring intense colors and modular forms. In the 1980s and 1990s, he led IDA and the ADI Council; since 1990, Studio Marco Piva, which he founded, has brought together 50 collaborators of various nationalities, with projects spanning masterplans, architecture, interior design, and product design worldwide.
He conceives art as a dynamic flow of volumes, surfaces, matter, and light for synesthetic experiences that transform the observer into a participant, balancing mathematical rigor and creative emotion. From laminated glass to liquid bronze, he scratches, cuts, and superimposes natural and high-tech materials, animated by LEDs for dynamic illusions and interactive textures.
